The People's Republic of China and the United States (USA) have not held a dialogue on nuclear arms control since November 2023, according to information published by Russia Today (RT).

“Unfortunately, the People's Republic of China has declined to hold a follow-up meeting and has not provided a substantive response to the options we suggested,” a State Department spokesman said.

RT in a press release details that the Joe Biden administration had proposed “common sense measures that would address the fundamental risks of conflict and uncontrolled escalation in the nuclear and space spheres”.

The conditions included the improvement of crisis communications with Beijing, the institution of notifications prior to the launch of strategic ballistic missile tests and efforts to reduce tensions in space.

In this regard, the spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, stated that the US should “put an end to its megaphone diplomacy”, and instead called for “the countries with the largest nuclear arsenals” to “significantly and substantially” reduce their quantities to promote arms control negotiations.
