China backs diplomatic advances between Russia and the US to ease tensions

The People's Republic of China welcomed the recent talks between the Russian Federation and the United States (USA), aimed at easing tensions and improving bilateral relations, according to Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
After the arrival of the Chinese minister on Sunday in Moscow for a three-day visit at the invitation of the Federation's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. The agenda includes talks on bilateral relations and global issues, in particular the conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov indicated that President Vladimir Putin is also expected to meet with Wang during his visit.
According to an interview with RIA Novosti, Wang said: “Russia and the United States have taken the first step towards normalizing relations, which is good for stabilizing the balance of power between the major powers and inspires optimism in a disappointing international situation.”
The Asian minister also noted that in a world facing increasing uncertainty, major countries must meet their commitments and play a stabilizing role.
Wang stressed that both Russia and the United States, as permanent members of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), share responsibility for global peace and must lead efforts to ensure international stability.
He also stated that the crisis in Ukraine, which has been going on for four years, is the biggest geopolitical conflict since the Cold War. He added that China has supported a political solution through dialogue and negotiation from the beginning and has supported all efforts to restore peace.
