By assuming the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council in February, China will work on the priorities of reaffirming member states' commitment to multilateralism and improving global governance, said Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations.

As reported by the international agency TASS, the world is entering a very turbulent period and with the number of conflicts around the world reaching the highest level since the Cold War, there is a growing call in the international community, especially among the Global South, to reform and improve the global governance system, he said.

“In the Security Council, solidarity and cooperation are replaced by division and confrontation. All too often, the council has been unable to do anything in the face of major security crises. This situation cannot continue,” Fu said at a press conference regarding the Security Council's work program for the month.
