China announces countermeasures to the imposition of tariffs by the US

The People's Republic of China rejected the massive tariffs announced by the United States (US) against its trading partners, including an additional 34% for Chinese products, and promised firm countermeasures to protect its interests.
The Donald Trump administration's measure, justified on the grounds of reciprocity, will affect more than 180 countries and regions with base rates of 10%, climbing to 49% for nations such as Cambodia or Vietnam.
The US executive order, issued under a declaration of “national emergency”, also closes the de minimis loophole, a rule that allowed low-value packages to enter tax-free from China.
MOFCOM called Donald Trump's policy a “typical act of unilateral intimidation” that violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and stressed that the US is the biggest beneficiary of the international trading system.
U.S. tariffs that bring the total for China to 54% could disrupt global supply chains. In this regard, MOFCOM warned that tariffs threaten global economic stability, while Chinese businessmen describe the search for alternative markets as a “rat race” with price wars and reduced margins.
On Wall Street, indices rebounded after the announcement, but uncertainty persists about inflation and decoupling.
