The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) reported this Saturday, March 29, that during the weekend there will be thunderstorms, strong winds, storm surges and moderate rains in much of the territory.

On its Prensa Latina website, it noted that a cold front driven by an atmospheric river is advancing this Saturday from the Aysén region and is expected to reach Coquimbo, in the so-called small north.

There will be winds with gusts exceeding 80 kilometers per hour, which could reach 90 in Patagonia, where rainfall will be stronger, so the DMC issued several preventive alerts due to the intensity of the event.

On Sunday, March 30, the weather phenomenon will reach the center of the country, including the Santiago Metropolitan Region, where weak to moderate rains are expected.

In addition, the Navy Weather Service issued a special storm warning from the Gulf of Penas, in Aysén, to Arica.

The strong waves will begin today in the south and will reach the north next Monday, with greater intensity during high tide, or high tide.

The Chilean Meteorological Directorate also reported on possible thunderstorms along the coast, the coastal mountain range and valleys in La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos.
