Chilean social movements support the CNE's call for presidential elections in Venezuela

Various organizations and social movements in Chile strongly support the convening of the National Electoral Council (CNE) for the next presidential elections in Venezuela, considering that there are the necessary guarantees to hold free and fair elections.

The following is the full text of the statement:

From all over the Republic of Chile, various organizations, social movements, parties and academic, cultural, political and public life personalities of the country join and fully support the call made by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela to hold Presidential Elections this coming July 28, as established by its political constitution.

It is an electoral process that will be accompanied by different international observation missions, including: CELAC, BRICS, CARICOM, ALBA, Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations, UN Panel of Experts, African Union, Carter Center, and other observation missions, thus guaranteeing free and fair elections.

However, a minority and extremist sector that has historically abandoned the electoral route as a democratic mechanism to settle differences between Venezuelans, is once again seeking to destabilize democracy in the country and, faced with its diminished possibility of achieving its objectives, is trying to install a matrix of negative opinion before the international community.

In such a way, given their scarce possibilities through popular democratic channels, they focus on sabotaging any democratic process that originates in the country and that is why they exclude themselves from the electoral process, not on registering their candidate and starting a false flag operation against democracy in the country.

So far there are 13 registered candidates, of whom 12 are recognized political opposition figures in the country, including Manuel Rosales, Governor of the State of Zulia and the main opposition leader to the Government headed by President Nicolás Maduro Moros in Venezuela.

This demonstrates the existence of all the electoral guarantees promoted by the governing body. In that sense, with all these arguments and analysis of the situation, we urge the different governments of the world to assert the principle of non-intervention in internal affairs and promote the right to self-determination of the Venezuelan people in order to continue strengthening democracy in the country.

In the last 25 years, Venezuela has called for 30 elections and with this it would be the 31st election and that, together with its automated, auditable and state-of-the-art system, make it a reference in the world.
