According to the preliminary results of the Chilean Electoral Service (SERVEL), the center-right group, Chile Vamos, achieved a total of 121 mayors, while the Contigo Chile Mejor coalition lost 40 municipalities and was left with 110 mayors.
Third, independent individuals with no party affiliation won 104 mayors. For its part, the extreme right was left with only eight municipalities out of the 345 that were at stake.
The Boric coalition lost a significant number of municipalities nationwide, although it managed to maintain key municipalities, such as Maipú, in Santiago, with a resounding victory for Tomás Vodanovic (re-elected with 70% of the votes), Rodrigo Espinoza, a political scientist at Diego Portales University, told AFP.
In this regard, a notable fall has been evidenced for the Gabriel Boric government in Chile: the non-election of the current mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, a member of the Communist Party.
Chile's candidate Vamos, Mario Desbordes, was elected in Santiago with 51.1% of the votes.
