During the press conference in the early morning of April 14, 2002, the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, stressed that the Venezuelan people came to stay in the Miraflores Palace, “and not to leave anymore, it has been proven.”

“He demonstrated this when they took to the streets to defeat the coup d'etat promoted by the fascist right,” he said.

He also said that what happened in Venezuela in these last few hours is truly unprecedented in the world. “The Venezuelan people and their true soldiers have written, and this is not grandiloquence, it is a truth, a new page for the Venezuelan history of Latin America and could also be of the world.”

“Example of a People that has definitely awakened, of a People that has recognized and assumed its rights, its obligations, of an Armed Force whose essence, whose structural heart, whose officers, non-commissioned officers, troops are aware of their historical responsibility and have not allowed themselves to be confused, manipulated or deceived,” he said.
