The Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez called on the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) to assume, together with the People, the defense of the country.
From the Municipal Theater of Caracas, on February 11, 2010, Chávez argued that it is essential to be prepared for the national defense of the territory, of the Constitution, of internal and external conspiracies.
“The threats will always be there for different reasons, historical and geographical, and there is a very powerful one: we have the largest oil reserves on this planet,” he emphasized.
He added that when there are no longer large deposits, there will still be four or five countries with large reserves: first Venezuela, then Saudi Arabia, Russia and Iran. “Can you imagine the pressure that will be on our grandchildren,” he said.
In that sense, he asserted that we have to leave our grandchildren a solid country, with solid institutions, with a great and deep national awareness of Venezuela, of the Homeland, knowledge, virtues, values and a capacity for defense that we did not have and that we are now beginning to build up.
