Chávez on the bourgeoisie: They privatize to take power from the people and give it to imperialism

On May 21, 2006, Commander Hugo Chávez recalled what it was like in the Fourth Republic with regard to privatizations, stressing that they used them to take “power away from the Nation, take away power from the Republic, take away power from the People; all these assets of national power were ready to be privatized”.

In this sense, during his Aló Presidente No. 255, from Ciudad Guayana, Bolivar state, he reaffirmed that the strategy of imperialist capitalism was to bankrupt State companies and then privatize them.

“If the Bolivarian Revolution hadn't arrived, there is no State company left here, not a single one left, they would have privatized the entire Ferrominera, everything the aluminum companies are, everything the companies are, well, they privatized steel, the wood and gold companies would have privatized everything (...) they were ready to hand it over to whom? Well, to imperialist capitalism, they would have left us in the lurch, without national power,” he said.

In view of this, he reaffirmed that the Bolivarian Revolution will always “defend the interests of Venezuela, we are also defending the interests of real Venezuelan businessmen in the private sector, from microenterprise to medium-sized enterprises and also large enterprises”.
