Chávez leader: I swear to promote transformations for the new Republic

From the National Assembly (AN), on February 2, 1999, Commander Hugo Chávez Frías expressed his commitment to the Homeland and to the People during his inauguration as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

A people who, on the basis of this dying Constitution, I will enforce and promote the democratic transformations necessary for the new Republic to have a Magna Carta suitable for the new times. I swear,” he said.

Also, after taking office as President, he stressed that on that crucial day for the Republic and history of Venezuela, “the door to a new national existence was opening; it has to be that way, it must be so”, reaffirming that “then our Bolivarianism is not mere rhetoric”.
