The Chancellor of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Hugh Hilton Todd, agreed with his Venezuelan counterpart, Yván Gil, on the commitment made in the “Argyle Declaration for Dialogue and Peace”, in order to continue with a new agenda of dialogue on the Essequibo controversy.

He said that “we are committed to the agreement to attend this meeting to ensure that we can work to advance areas of interest.”

“This is a good start because we were able to meet, talk and exchange our views and ideas,” he said.

This was stated by Todd, at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasilia, headquarters of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, at the end of the installation of the Joint Commission of Foreign and Technical Ministers of Guyana and Venezuela.

Todd considered that this Thursday's meeting is a first step in opening up other fronts of work, in areas such as economic cooperation, the fight against the climate crisis and the fight against organized crime, among others.

“We can find areas of common interest where we can collaborate,” he said.
