Chancellor Gil receives Russian ambassador “in a context of renewed imperialist aggressions”

The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, received in his office this Monday the ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Sergey Mélik-Bagdasárov, to review the work agenda between the two nations.

During the meeting, both diplomats reviewed the progress made in “the numerous cooperation agreements and political alliances” binational, said the Venezuelan Foreign Minister through his account on the social network X.

Gil stressed that the meeting with the Russian diplomat “takes place in a context of renewed imperialist aggressions that urge us to strengthen our bonds of friendship”, referring to recent threats from the United States Government regarding unilateral coercive measures against the Venezuelan energy industry.

In this regard, on this same day, Venezuela rejected the action it described as “blackmail and interference” in the country's internal affairs, following the announcement made by the State Department about the non-renewal of oil and gas licenses in the South American nation.

In an official statement, the Bolivarian Government “absolutely and unequivocally repudiated the neocolonialist interventionism that Washington is trying to impose against an independent country that fully exercises its national sovereignty and that has the right to choose its own destiny (...) Venezuela will not give in to any blackmail. Its institutions will continue to comply with the laws and the national Constitution, in accordance with the mandate received by the Venezuelan people.”
