The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs,
Yván Gil, received in his office this Monday the ambassador of the Russian
Federation accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Sergey
Mélik-Bagdasárov, to review the work agenda between the two nations.
During the meeting, both diplomats reviewed the progress made
in “the numerous cooperation agreements and political alliances” binational, said
the Venezuelan Foreign Minister through his account on the social network X.
Gil stressed that the meeting with the Russian diplomat “takes place
in a context of renewed imperialist aggressions that urge us to
strengthen our bonds of friendship”, referring to recent threats
from the United States Government regarding
unilateral coercive measures against the Venezuelan energy industry.
In this regard, on this same day, Venezuela rejected the
action it described as “blackmail and interference” in the
country's internal affairs, following the announcement made by the State Department about the non-renewal
of oil and gas licenses in the South American nation.
In an official statement, the Bolivarian Government
“absolutely and unequivocally repudiated the neocolonialist interventionism that
Washington is trying to impose against an independent country that
fully exercises its national sovereignty and that has the right to choose its own destiny (...) Venezuela will not give in to any blackmail.
Its institutions will continue to
comply with the laws and the national Constitution, in accordance with the mandate
received by the Venezuelan people.”
