The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, received this Tuesday in his office the Chargé d'Affaires of the Italian Republic in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Giovanni Umberto De Vito.

Through his account on the social network X, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister noted that the meeting was held “with the objective of exchanging views on various issues of common interest in the global context. In addition, we reviewed the state of bilateral relations and their updating.”

The Chargé d'Affaires of the European country arrived in Venezuela and began a diplomatic mission on November 30, 2023.

Bilateral relations between Venezuela and Italy date back to March 1856, with the opening of the Venezuelan Consulate in Naples. In 1857, the first Italian consular legation was made official in Venezuela, with headquarters in Maracaibo and, in 1859, a second headquarters was inaugurated in La Guaira, with the purpose of welcoming migrants from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies into the country.
