The foreign ministers of the countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) met this Tuesday, regarding the 9th Summit of Heads of State of the regional block, which is being held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with the participation of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).

“We want this meeting to be a testimony to the will of our peoples and our countries to dialogue and to listen to each other to find common ground, solutions, as well as common points of view in relation to the challenges posed to us by the current events,” said the Foreign Minister of Honduras, Eduardo Reina, when welcoming the attendees.

Reina pointed out that this event is essential to defend and strengthen the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to promote a shared future, stressing that CELAC “is the face of our sovereignty and where we can find ourselves without guardianship.”

Presenting the report of the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC, led by the Honduran president, Xiomara Castro, the diplomat indicated that the commitment was always focused on strengthening the union of the region, as well as food security.

Educational quality, care for the environment and technological sovereignty were also promoted. “With China, we consolidated a strategic alliance (...) We activated the union with Africa and resumed the dialogue mechanism with India, which had been dormant for some time,” Reina explained, quoted in an ALBA-TCP press release.
