On February 1, 1818, Cecilio Acosta, an illustrious writer, journalist, lawyer, philosopher and one of the great exponents of humanism in Venezuela, was born in San Diego de los Altos, Miranda State.
Acosta studied at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and managed to obtain a law degree, despite the difficult economic situation he was living with his family.
This humble lawyer, thanks to his essays, made him a renowned writer because he captured his reflections on the tense situation in the country, divided between conservatives and liberals, in the newspapers La Época, El Federal and El Centinela de la Patria.
From that moment on, his humanistic thinking led him to be a strong defender of justice and freedom. His works are oriented to political, economic, social and educational approaches, always related to the idea of progress.
The Little White House (1872) and his essay Things Known, Things to Know (1856), which is considered one of his strongest works, are the most outstanding and memorable works of this illustrious Venezuelan writer.
