Hundreds of Venezuelans gathered at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Candelaria, in Caracas, to celebrate with a special prayer vigil the first anniversary of the canonization of Saint Joseph Gregorio Hernández and Saint Mother Carmen Rendiles.
Attendees paid tribute to the social legacy, the vocation for service and the historical value of both personalities. In addition, the church authorities emphasized that the high participation of believers evidences the validity of their teachings in today's society.
The religious meeting gave way to several pilgrimages and solemn masses in the capital city to remember the historic and ecclesiastical milestone that Venezuelans experienced a year ago.
In this regard, the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, expressed her deep devotion and pride for the first anniversary of the canonization of the first Venezuelan saints, approved by the Vatican in 2025.
“We remember with emotion when in 2025, Venezuela and the world experienced the long-awaited sanctification of two beings who dedicated their lives to the service of those most in need,” he said on his social networks.
He also stressed that “faith unites us, prayer comforts us and we ask our two dear saints for the well-being and health of all. Caracas is filled with the devotion of its people on this day.”
