Caracas celebrated National Salsa Day with a day of music and dance in the open spaces of the Simon Bolivar Center, where residents of El Silencio and bystanders enjoyed the “La Bailadera” activity.

The day was promoted by the Institute of Performing and Musical Arts (IAEM) and included the participation of the cultor Urpinio Garrido, who set the pace for the encounter with his performances.

Every October 5, National Salsa Day is commemorated in honor of the Venezuelan broadcaster Phidias Danilo Escalona, born in Caracas in 1933 and recognized for spreading the term “salsa” to identify the combination of genres such as guaguancó, son, rumba and guaracha.

“La Bailadera” is part of the 9th Meeting of Knowledge, Sounds and Flavors, “Between dances and dances”, whose program will continue on October 6, 7 and 8 with activities dedicated to drum dancing, including theoretical-practical workshops and a presentation by Peggy Colina and her Parrandón Pemusic.

The activities are part of the cultural program developed by the IAEM in the spaces of the Simon Bolivar Center in the capital.
