Diosdado Cabello, first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), dismissed threats from Guyanese authorities with his announcement of a request for help from the United States Southern Command.

“We haven't declared war on anyone. Do you think that at this point they're going to scare us with the Southern Command?”

During his program Con El Mazo Dando, he emphasized that Venezuela has acted within the framework of the Constitution, and so he reiterated his rejection of Guyana's allegations against Venezuelans.

“From Guyana they threaten us, they say they are going to call their friends in the Southern Command, in the United Nations (UN) and in the Security Council and then they come out saying that Venezuela is threatening them (...). We are acting under the guidelines of the Constitution, of our Constitution, which was made by Venezuelans.”
