The first
vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello,
exalted this Monday the importance of the XXIII Summit of Heads of State and
Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade
Agreement (ALBA-TCP), held last Wednesday, April 25 in Caracas.
During the
usual weekly press conference with the red awning, Cabello stated that “the
world moves and these strategic alliances between Peoples are much
stronger than those old structures such as the OAS (Organization of
American States), which are bound by imperialism.”
Among the points
that make up the final declaration of the above-mentioned Summit is to adopt the ALBA-TCP
Strategic Agenda 2030 “as a guide and living document to face
the years to come and consolidate the Alliance in a comprehensive way, in a
joint effort to strengthen the most important areas for the development and well-being
of our peoples”.
In addition, the Heads of State and Government expressed
their commitment to the defense of national sovereignty without external interference,
rejecting “the postulates of the Monroe Doctrine, which, after 200 years,
is still being used to justify destabilizing actions and interventions
in Latin America and the Caribbean”, and they “strongly condemned any effort to
establish new forms of domination in the region and we claim the right to live
within a continent free of imperial hegemony”.
