The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, asserted that longliners maintain a systematic strategy of misrepresentation aimed at positioning falsehoods as real facts.
During the broadcast of his Con El Mazo Dando program, he stated that it is “the manipulation of a lifetime”, whose main objective is to influence public perception through unfounded stories. “They try to turn lies into truth, to turn their story into something that at least creates doubt,” he said.
“They are intrigues, poorly cast stories, they cite supposed hidden sources. When you see that someone says they could, there would be, and that's a lie, because if you're a serious journalist you don't get a chance,” he emphasized.
In that sense, he said that they do it because if they make mistakes, nothing happens because they didn't say it, but they said “maybe, maybe, maybe”.
He insisted that the ethical exercise of journalism requires well-founded assertions and certainty in the information: “Such a thing happened, with certainty.”
