The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, pointed out that the Spanish empire came to the American continent to exterminate the native population and impose its ideology.
“Nobody was discovered here, some arrived here who were lost on a ship and assumed it as a discovery, but the truth is, that was the beginning of a genocide, of a blatant robbery of taking all the resources,” Cabello emphasized during the march commemorating the Day of Indigenous Resistance.
He stressed that 532 years later, it is a source of pride to belong to these lands where indigenous peoples have been the protagonists of their history of anti-imperialist struggle.
“That is why to walk with them today is to receive their strength and energy is to charge ourselves with that ancient wisdom, but also to charge ourselves with that strength to fight against any enemy,” he said.
He stressed that today Venezuela is facing the most powerful empire in the world that will be defeated as the Spanish crown was defeated 200 years ago.
