The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) of the Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed that the current outbreak of the Ebola virus has reached unprecedented levels in the African nation, after counting more than 6,600 infections and registering 3,170 people dead.
According to a report released by the multistate network Telesur, the health agency's assessments indicate that the epidemiological contingency initiated in the month of May in the province of Ituri remains at critical levels of transmission in the affected regions.
Local authorities reported that the spread of the Bundibugyo strain poses additional operational challenges for medical response teams, given the need to secure vaccination schedules and safe treatments specifically adapted to this variant of the virus.
Faced with the impact of the epidemic, the area ministry and public health institutions are continuing to deploy health fences, epidemiological monitoring and assistance days in areas at greatest risk to contain the chain of infections.
