The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ryabkov, announced last Monday that the BRICS group, composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis in Syria after the recent coup d'etat.
“In the BRICS, we discuss all issues relevant to the Middle East. This situation will undoubtedly be the subject of consideration, given that we have established a format for specialized consultations on the Middle East at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers,” said the Russian Deputy Minister.
Riabkov expressed hope that the dialogue would not be limited to discussion alone. “I hope that we will move towards in-depth coordination and, ideally, towards the development of common approaches.”
