The Senate of the Federative Republic of Brazil approved this Thursday the Constitutional Amendment (PEC 221/19), which definitively eradicates the work schedule of six days of work for one of rest, guaranteeing two days of paid rest per week and setting a gradual reduction in the maximum working day from 44 to 40 hours without a reduction in salary.
According to information highlighted in Telesur, the constitutional reform will directly benefit more than 26 million workers protected under the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), representing a historic victory for the working class against overexploitation in the largest economy in Latin America.
The legislative measure provides structural relief to nearly 15 million wage earners hit by the 6x1 scheme in key sectors such as commerce, services, transport and food, revaluing the social rights of working people.
Since it has been sanctioned by both houses of the Legislative Branch without modifications to the original text, the regulation will be directly enacted by the National Congress, consolidating historic progress in the labor achievements promoted by the country's trade union movements and progressive forces.
