The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that allows the Executive to take countermeasures against countries that impose restrictions on their exports; after the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, announced a 10 percent tariff on the country.

According to information reported by Telesur, ruling 2088/23, drafted and already approved by the Senate, is now ready for the sanction of the president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has already regretted Trump's decision, reported a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

The bill introduced in 2023 authorizing the use of the principle of reciprocity. It was originally a response to the European Union (EU)'s unilateral environmental barriers that would affect the influential agriculture sector.

Brazil is entitled to increase import taxes on goods and services from the United States, the EU or another nation, without violating the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO) contemplated in its legislation.
