The arbovirus specialist from the Pan American Health Organization
(PAHO), Carlos Melo, reported that Brazil is the epicenter nation in the
dengue region, registering 67.4% of cases, or 3.1 million people
infected so far in 2024.
While Paraguay is in second place, followed by
Argentina and Peru, Melo points out, while explaining that these outbreaks are
due to climate change and the El Niño phenomenon.
The PAHO expert also said that the period of drought intensifies
the breeding of mosquito eggs due to water storage.
According to the Xinhua website, Latin America has
more than 4.6 million positive cases of dengue fever and 1,500 deaths.
