This Monday, the Deputy Minister of Civil Defense of Bolivia, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, reported that the rains have caused, since November of last year to date, more than 20 dead and left 10,662 families affected.

“These weather events are worryingly affecting Bolivia, which is struggling with the consequences of heavy rains that cause floods, floods and mud dungeons and have already claimed 27 lives across the country,” he said during a press conference.

In this regard, Calvimontes explained that eight of the nine departments of the South American country have been affected, with La Paz (west) being the hardest hit.

“In Bolivia, an orange alert has been issued in eight departments, with the exception of Beni, in 179 municipalities,” he said.

He added that the Bolivian Government has responded with humanitarian aid, providing tons of resources. However, he admitted that the figures indicate that the magnitude of the disaster exceeds current response capacities.
