The National Government, through the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC), implements programs to protect endangered animals.

Two toninas, also called pink tonina or Amazonian pink dolphin, were rescued in Puerto El Indio, along the route of the Portuguesa River, in the town of Camaguán, Guárico state, which are being evaluated and transferred to their natural habitat.

MINEC, together with non-governmental organizations, such as the Sotalia Project, an entity dedicated to the research, conservation and dissemination of aquatic mammal species in Venezuela, members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Civil Protection (PC), servers and servants of the National Institute of Fisheries (Insoesca) and volunteers, among other institutions, have strengthened a culture of animal preservation and the rescue of these species in the Apure, Delta Amacuro, Amazonas and Guárico states.

It should be noted that the MINEC has an active telephone line, 0800-Ambient (262-4368), to receive reports and information about sightings of any type of animal, that do not belong to those environments, and then be processed by a multidisciplinary team that will carry out the evaluation, rescue and subsequent release in their natural habitat.
