The road that leads to Choroní, Aragua state, was enabled for the controlled circulation of 78 vehicles and 22 motorcycles that remained dammed on the road, after the landslides recorded last Saturday at kilometers 9, 10 and 25, said the mayor of the Girardot municipality, Rafael Morales.
“We have already cleared half of the channel so that the cars can get down,” Morales said early this Wednesday morning, who indicated that a patrol team accompanies the drivers until they arrive in Maracay. The local president specified that the operation was carried out under the instructions of the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, and Governor Johana Sánchez.
For this Wednesday, access will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., exclusively for the transportation of food and fuel to the town of Choroní. Starting at noon, there will be a partial closure to continue recovery and maintenance work until Saturday.
For his part, the regional director of Civil Protection and Disaster Management of Aragua, Jesús Franco, reported that the teams are carrying out their third consecutive day of work after the collapse last Saturday. “At this time, we recorded 80% progress in the clearance work, guaranteeing the passability, safety and well-being of our entire population and seasonal workers,” said Franco, who specified that kilometers 9 and 25 have already been cleared and that work is continuing at kilometer 10.
