With the intention of creating preventive and safe conditions in view of the approach of the rainy season in the country, the Bolivarian Government initiated the Risk Mitigation Plan for Rivers, Dams and Streams in Maracay with the objective of avoiding incidents in sectors surrounding these water channels.

As a starting point for this plan, operations began with heavy machinery on the Madre Vieja River, a stretch adjacent to the community of Rio Blanco II, in the Pedro José Ovalles parish thanks to the joint work between the regional government, the Ministry of People's Power for Water Care (MINAGUAS) and the local government.

The objective of the plan - explains a regional press release - is to extract the sediments inside the channels with the use of heavy machinery such as chain excavators, so that the flow of water is free of obstacles, avoiding the risk of flooding in surrounding areas.
