February 2, 1814, the Patriot Forces neutralized the realists in the Battle of Ospino, a military confrontation fought in the context of the Venezuelan War of Independence, specifically during the Barinas Campaign.
In this battle, the Patriot Forces were under the command of General Rafael Urdaneta and the royalists under the command of the leader José Antonio Yáñez. The combat ended with the defeat of the Royalists and the death of their commander.
Some historians do not mention this fight, which although it was not of great magnitude, was very important for the independence quest, because in it one of the most active realist soldiers, such as Yáñez, died from a gunshot.
