With an army that was tripled by the royalist forces, General José Antonio Páez, on January 28, 1817, guided the Llanero warriors to the most impressive victory, where the patriots demonstrated their fierceness and determination for freedom and sovereignty.

This heroic battle fought in the plains of Mucuritas, Apure state, was the greatest demonstration of the strength of the Creole independence fighters, who despite being outnumbered, fought a courageous battle, managing to subdue the spirit of the realists who were defeated.
