The Battle of Bárbula was an armed confrontation that took place on September 30, 1813, whose protagonists were, on the one hand, Venezuelan troops and New Grenadian forces commanded by Rafael Urdaneta and Atanasio Girardot and on the other the realist army, led by Domingo Monteverde, reinforced by components of the Granada Regiment, arrived from Spain under the command of Colonel Miguel Salomón.
With 2,000 patriotic soldiers and 2,500 realistic soldiers, the attack was carried out with 3 columns made up of Girardot and Luciano D'Elhuyar on the first step, with the reserve in the second Urdaneta.
The resulting triumph for the allied Colombian-Venezuelan army played a decisive role, paving the way for the establishment of the Second Republic of Venezuela.
