Barinas brought together poets from various countries and
joropo dancers as part of the 59th edition of the Religious, Cultural and
Sports Fairs in honor of Our Lady of the Pillar, which began with activities
dedicated to poetry and llanera traditions.
The program included the opening of the VI Colombo-Venezuelan
Poetry Festival in the gallery of the José Esteban Ruíz Guevara Theater,
with a plastic exhibition and readings by writers from Colombia and Venezuela,
which was attended by the Minister for Culture, Alejandro López, and local authorities.
The meeting includes Colombian delegations from Norte de Santander, Santander and Cundinamarca, as well as Venezuelan poets from Mérida, Portuguesa, Táchira, the Capital District and Barinas. In addition, Mexico joined as a guest country through its diplomatic representation.
The agenda also includes talks, editorial presentations and recitals in different spaces in the region.
The activities also included the Fundaca de Oro
International Joropódromo 2026, which brought together more than 400 dance couples from 52 national and international
academies.
During the tour, López highlighted the value of this demonstration to preserve Venezuelan cultural identity: “To dance Joropo is to create culture, to dance Joropo is to strengthen our identity, to dance Joropo is to keep our cultural heritage alive”.
