On December 4, 1790, the independence hero Barbarita de la Torre was born in the state of Trujillo.

She was the captain of groups of Trujillanos who fought for the country's independence. She reached the rank of colonel during her performance in battles.

He participated in the following battles: El Cenizo, El Dividive, Monay, Monaicito, Agua Santa, Las Trincheras de Betijoque, Los Cuarteles, Los Higuerotes and Niquitao; battles that took place in the Venezuelan Andean region. He was present at the signing of the War to the Death Decree, in Trujillo, on June 15, 1813.

The Trujillo heroine Barbarita de La Torre died on November 1, 1817, after being arrested and imprisoned by the mixed-race realist, a native of Siquisique, Lara state, Juan de Los Reyes Vargas in La Ceibita.
