According to reports from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Los Ríos region, Chile, the cause of death of former president Sebastián Piñera was “suffocation by submersion”, after the helicopter he owned fell into the water, in which he was traveling this Tuesday, in the municipality of Lago Ranco.

On the highway, carried out by the Legal Medical Service (SML) and which lasted four hours, there was no evidence of traumatic injuries that could have contributed to the death of the former president.

So far, two hypotheses have been used in the investigations, a technical problem due to poor weather conditions in the area or a physical problem of the 74-year-old former president, which would have caused him to lose control of the helicopter and not be able to remove his seat belt.

However, the prosecution pointed out that the investigation is still ongoing and follows two other lines: the expertise of the device itself, which had to be taken out of the lake and the interrogation of the three survivors of the accident, the sister of the president Magdalena Piñera and the businessman and friend Ignacio Guerrero with his son, who managed to go swimming after the ship fell into the river.
