The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, confirmed that six people died this Thursday, April 10, when a helicopter crashed into the waters of the Hudson River, in New York.

He also reported that they are two adults and three children, apparently from the same family, plus the pilot of the aircraft, the Telesur website reported.

The mayor confirmed at a press conference that no person survived the accident and that it was “a family from Spain and a pilot”, detailing that two adults and three children were traveling on board the ship among the passengers, in addition to the driver.

The authorities also explained that the helicopter belonged to a tourist company called New York Helicopter Tours, which provides panoramic tour services in New York.

The tracking of the aircraft on Flight Radar reported that at the time of the event the helicopter (a Bell 206) had been flying for 15 minutes and six kilometers traveled.

The ship crashed at 15:15 local time (19:15 local time) and with very low temperatures (around 5 degrees Celsius), and according to the images published by several televisions, a helicopter with a split tail can be seen falling loudly into the river.

Police Chief Jessica Tisch located the accident at approximately 15:17 local time (19:15 GMT), then emergency services attended; divers recovered four bodies and two other passengers died in hospital.

The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, confirmed to the media the death of six people, with a statement that “six innocent souls have lost their lives”.

He added that the accident “destroys your heart and is worse than we could have imagined”.

On the other hand , The New York Times, reported citing a “senior security official”, that Agustín Escobar Cañadas, the CEO of the Spanish subsidiary of the technology company Siemens, was traveling on the aircraft, along with his wife and children aged four, five and 11 when the fatality occurred.

In New York, approximately 32 people have been killed in helicopter accidents, the most recent in 2019, when a helicopter used for executive travel crashed into the roof of a Manhattan skyscraper in limited airspace and the pilot died.
