On February 21, 1934, the Nicaraguan revolutionary leader Augusto César Sandino, an indomitable warrior who dedicated his life to the fight for the freedom of his homeland, fighting and defeating North American imperialism, was assassinated.

The fierceness of this beacon of the dignity of our America, a fierce opponent of the dictatorship of Anastacio Somoza, allowed him to wage a heroic struggle that succeeded in expelling the invading army from the United States (USA).

Born in the town of Niquinohomo, Sandino achieved glory in the well-known combat of “El Bramadero” (February 27, 1928), where Nicaraguan troops inflicted a terrible defeat on a patrol of invading “males”. This battle is memorable because in the final phase the Sandinistas used the fearsome machetes, capable of beheading a man in a single slash, which generated growing fear among the marines who were fleeing the onslaught of these guerrilla fighters on horseback.

Today, the General of Free Men throbs in the heat of the Revolution that lives up to his name, which continues to combat imperialism that, in its claim to dominate the lives of the peoples of our America, attacks this process of vindication and liberation of the Nicaraguan people, led by President Daniel Ortega.
