In 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) unanimously approved resolution 64/35, declaring August 29 as the International Day against Nuclear Tests.

In 2010, that day was celebrated for the first time with the objective of raising awareness among the world's governments, since 1945 to date, more than 2,000 nuclear tests have been carried out on the planet, regardless of the damage to populations and the ecosystem.
