The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, held a press conference this Monday in which he detailed the latest conspiracies against the Venezuelan State unveiled and prosecuted by security forces and the Public Ministry.

In this regard, he recalled that Venezuela has been subject to a “permanent process of destabilization and violence, which began in December 2001 with a strike called against the enabling laws approved by President Chávez”; and which went through a coup d'etat, an assassination attempt, among other events that sought to destabilize the nation.

Saab said that from May 2023 to date, five terrorist actions have taken place to “bathe Venezuela with blood”, which have included Venezuelan soldiers recruited from Colombia; supported by the government of former President Gustavo Duque and “now in Petro's presidency they have done it covertly but in the same way we have discovered it.”

For this reason, he specified that the first act was deactivated in May 2023 and Uaipsru Guerere López and 11 defendants were arrested for the crimes of resistance to authority, serious personal injury, damage to property, conspiracy, treason, disclosure of military secrets, trafficking in arms and ammunition.

The second case, called the Guasdualito espionage case, in which intelligence tasks determined that a group of civilians and police officers were operating in coordination with members of a foreign intelligence organization, which consisted of recruiting members of security agencies to access confidential information related to presidential security, military units and political acts, in order to to attack the first national president, political leaders, weapons systems of the FANB, and to cause terror in the general population.

For this reason, they find three citizens deprived of their liberty for the crimes for which they were accused: terrorism, treason, conspiracy with foreign governments, disclosure of military secrets and association.

“A third equally terrible case has been called the La Viñeta case. In this case, it was possible to deactivate a terrorist group whose objective was to attempt the life of the first national president Nicolás Maduro and that of the Minister of Defense G/J. Vladimir Padrino López,” said the prosecutor, adding that the detainees were charged with treason, conspiracy, terrorism and association.

The fourth case was called the Fortunato case and because of this, José Fortunato Guerrero Rojas was arrested, in the José María Semprún Municipality of the state of Zulia, who was entering the country irregularly to carry out alleged espionage and terrorist activities, was looking for information such as the names of pilots and military personnel to send it to a foreign intelligence agency (CIA).

“For this case there are five people deprived of their liberty and accused are José Fortunato Guerrero Rojas; Daniel Rivas; Jholmar Cárdenas; Jesús Alberto García and Jesús Alberto García and Edgar Carrillo, who were accused of the crimes of terrorism, treason, conspiracy with foreign governments and association.”

As for the case called White Bracelet, which involves serial killers, and resulted in the arrest of former soldier Ángelo Heredia in a rural area near the border in Táchira, who was participating in a plan to attack the 21st Infantry Brigade of the Bolivarian Army of the Andean entity.

The head of the criminal action explained that the intention was to “seize the weapons park of this military corps, and then attempt the life of Governor Freddy Bernal and then begin an escalation of terrorist acts to attempt the life of President Nicolás Maduro, indicating the emptying of the direct participation of several soldiers and civilians.”

In this regard, on January 19, 14 arrest warrants were requested from the 2nd Counter-Terrorism Control Court against the military and civilians involved in these plans, corresponding to: Angelo Julio Heredia Gervacio, the following people involved Guillermo Enrique César Siero; Tomás Martínez Macías, Carlos Jesús Sánchez Vázquez, Ronald Alejandro Ferrer Vera; Guillermo Henry César Siero; Tomás Martínez Chico and Diana Desiree Victoria Justo.

“Additionally, arrest warrants were issued for Tamara Sulay Sujú; Wender Villalobos; Norbey Marin; María Sebastiana Barraez; Mario Carratú Molina and José Antonio Colina. The crimes for which they are being investigated are treason, intentional homicide classified as attempted in the person of the President of the Republic, intentional homicide qualified as a degree of attempt in the person of the governor of the state of Táchira, terrorism and association,” he said.

According to information from the Prosecutor, the plan of Heredia and his team “was to start the final hours in the last hours of 2023 and blow up the whole of January 1st. They were going to start in Táchira; then in Barinas and so on until they reached Caracas. This was dismantled by intelligence bodies and State authorities who have been following up on what happened in recent years.”

He warned that “new arrests will come, because there are groups that describe themselves as political, opposition groups but belong to fascist Nazi groups, we have their accomplices and their sources of funding. It is a political, legal and moral victory to dismantle these five hateful actions.

“The Public Prosecutor's Office acts as the owner of the criminal action. The warning is that there will be no legal contemplation against those who have a arrogance of power that has driven them crazy,” he said.
