The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, denounced this Wednesday a false-flag operation by the country's opposition extremism surrounding the assassination of Lieutenant Ronald Ojeda in Chile.

“We consider that the murder of Ojeda is a false flag operation. An operation that aimed to cloud relations between Chile and Venezuela, just when a very important rapprochement was taking place. What a coincidence,” said William Saab at a press conference.

He stressed that “the mobile phone is indeed political, but it is not the one that has been considered in the Chilean media and that the Chilean Public Prosecutor's Office has not wanted to deny or corroborate.”

The prosecutor announced to the country that a request for inter-institutional cooperation was received within the framework of the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors (AIAMP), from a Directorate attached to the Attorney General's Office of Chile, which requests personal data and criminal records of five people linked to the murder of Ojeda.

In this regard, the Public Prosecutor's Office “is proceeding to locate the subjects identified as suspects involved in said crime, for immediate arrest if they are in our territory, in accordance with our national and international obligations”.

Saab noted that, during a recent visit by representatives of the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office to Chile, the justice system of that country “showed little interest in the contributions of this institution, which is why we believe that the Chilean Public Prosecutor's Office must comply with its commitment to institutional cooperation.”

“As our delegation reported at that meeting, we have sent a request for mutual criminal assistance requiring key data to advance in locating those involved who have been identified and that also allows progress in identifying who or who ordered this homicide,” he said.
