The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) and the Committee to Protect Journalists reported a series of attacks on freedom of expression in El Salvador.
According to an IAPA statement in El Salvador, there are serious attacks on freedom of expression in the Central American nation, which have been exacerbated by the state of emergency imposed by the administration of Nayib Bukele in El Salvador since last year 2022.
“Journalists denounce growing stigmatization, harassment and threats by government figures, including President Bukele himself,” says the text replicated by the Venezuela News portal.
In this regard, the statement also states that there is “a digital army of technological contractors and trolls to spread disinformation and amplify official propaganda”.
It should be noted that at the end of 2022, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador enacted an emergency regime to combat gangs. This measure helped the Government to reduce the homicide rate.
