The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, urged the international community to “take good care of our common home”, in addition to making joint efforts to advance global governance, given that “humanity has only one planet Earth to call home, so we belong to the same global community”.
In the face of profound changes never seen in a century, it was very important for world leaders to meet at the Future Summit and, together, adopt the Pact for the Future with the objective of galvanizing their collective efforts for world peace and development and outlining the future of humanity, said Wang.
The foreign minister is also a special representative of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in his statement during the summit.
Wang said that, with this objective in mind, Xi has presented a vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, advocated high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative.
These visions and initiatives, he said, have provided new solutions to face the common challenges of humanity and outlined a new guide for building a better world.
The minister elaborated the four-point proposal presented by China: First, the countries of the world need to build a future of peace and tranquility and must defend the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, resolving disputes through dialogue, resolving differences through consultation and improving security through cooperation. And large countries, in particular, must set an example by breaking geopolitical circles, rising above the confrontation of blocs and serving as propellers of global solidarity and anchors for international peace.
Secondly, the countries of the world need to build a future of development and prosperity, to follow a people-centered philosophy of development and to commit to an inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, in order to share the fruits of development among people and guarantee the common prosperity of all countries.
Thirdly, all countries on the planet need to build a future of equity and justice, build an equitable and orderly multipolar world, oppose acts of hegemony such as unilateral sanctions, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
Fourthly, the countries of the world need to build a better future, keeping up with the times and making global governance fairer and more equitable.
“China will work side by side with countries around the world to move forward in building a community with a shared future for humanity and creating a more peaceful and better tomorrow,” said Wang.
