At least four dead soldiers leave helicopter crash in Colombia

At least four soldiers lost their lives when the helicopter in which they were being transported to the Cuti binational military base, in the Colombian department of Chocó, on the border with Panama, the Colombian National Army confirmed Monday.

“The men and women of the institution pray for the eternal rest of our soldiers who sadly lost their lives in the plane crash in Chocó. Our thoughts and solidarity with their family and friends,” the Army wrote on its account on the social network X.

The soldiers who died are “Major Karol Felipe García Murillo, pilot in command of the aircraft; Captain Darío Bernal Toloza, member of the Infantry Battalion No. 46 Voltígeros; Lieutenant Jhon Elder Barbosa, pilot, and Deputy First Sergeant Javier Elías Reino, chief of crew”.

For his part, the commander of the National Army, General Luis Ospina, said that he ordered “every effort to be made to assist the personnel affected by this regrettable situation. Likewise, to establish support for the families of our soldiers.”

“We will also be watching and accompanying the families of the injured military personnel,” the commander added.

According to local press reports, seven soldiers were traveling in the helicopter.

According to the Army, the plane crash occurred while they were carrying out an internal cargo operation against the troops of the Cuti binational military base, in Unguia, Chocó.
