At least 61 dead were shipwrecked in the Central Mediterranean

Libya's International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 61 migrants died in a shipwreck near the coast of the African country.

 

“The center of the Mediterranean is one of the most dangerous migratory routes in the world,” reads the IOM statement.

 

In this regard, he explained that 86 people were on the boat, of whom 25 people were rescued and transferred to a Libyan detention center in Tariq Al Sekka, near Tripoli.

 

“An IOM team was able to provide medical support and everyone is in good health,” he said.

 

It is worth noting that Libya and Tunisia are the main alternative in the Central Mediterranean for migrants who try to reach Europe illegally.
