Former Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica announced that his esophageal cancer has spread to the liver and that he has decided to stop fighting it, as published in the weekly Búsqueda this Thursday.

“I'm dying... The cancer in my esophagus is colonizing my liver. I don't stop it with anything. Why? Because I am an elderly person and because I have two chronic diseases. I don't need biochemical treatment or surgery, because my body can't handle it,” said the former president.

Mujica made the announcement with tears in her eyes and was adamant: “I'm doomed; I've come this far.” “To be pichicated (medicated) and, when I have to die, I die,” he emphasized.

The former head of state will not give any more interviews either, since he only wants to dedicate himself to working on his farm, located on the outskirts of this capital.
