A man armed with an assault rifle and several grenades caused a shooting and at least six explosions in the center of the city of Kropivnitsky, Ukraine, after attacking a contingent of the local police force.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the armed aggression was triggered during a police procedure, at which point the individual threw explosive devices at the officers and began a flurry of shots with the automatic weapon on public roads, Russia Today (RT) said.

Security forces cordoned off the perimeter of the area to neutralize the threat and respond to the contingency, while relief forces deployed operational units to assess material damage and impacts in the immediate vicinity.

The incident evidences the worrying deterioration of citizen security and the massive proliferation of military weapons in the hands of civilians on Ukrainian territory, as a result of the lack of control in the distribution of war equipment in the country.
