On September 18, 1954, Venezuela saw the departure of one of the country's most important artists of the 20th century, the “Master of Tropical Light”, Armando Reverón, author of more than 500 works with the sea and feminine beauty as their main inspiration.

The plastic artist died at the San Jorge Sanatorium in La Guaira, when he was working on an exhibition announced by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas.

He spent a large part of his artistic career on the coast of the country, where he lived with his muse and wife Juanita Ríos, during which period he adopted primitive habits that were disconnected from the city and were able to expand a deeper perception of nature.

It is estimated that he was the author of almost 600 pieces including paintings, drawings, objects and his famous rag dolls.

The bohemian life in which Armando Reverón lived eternally allowed this painting genius to create a work that today is recognized by all international art critics, breaking the classic mold of Venezuelan painting.
